Custom Sprayers Are More Affordable Than You Think

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Wed, Apr 06, 2016

KingsSprayers_Custom-Sprayers.pngWe understand that not every application or applicator works the same way. No one knows your job better than you do, so take charge of your spray equipment. Get exactly what YOU need at a price that won't break the bank.

Our team of knowledgeable Customer Service Technicians will work with you to develop, design, and build the spray equipment you want and need. We are proud of delivering excellent customer service, expert technical support, and quality sprayers that can be custom-built for your business.

We've built thousands of custom sprayers over the years, so we can help you find the best set-up for your application. Our Customer Service Technicians can answer all of your technical questions and provide you with a free quote. If price is holding you back from purchasing custom equipment, put your mind and wallet at ease. Custom sprayers are more affordable than you think, and most common modifications are relatively inexpensive.

Need more hose or a bigger tank with a different frame? We never shy away from any type of customization, regardless of how small or big of a job it may be.

Here are some examples of the most common modification requests we receive:

  • Extra hose reels
  • Switch manual hose to an electric version
  • Select a different spray gun
  • Use a bigger or smaller tank
  • Change the tank's orientation on the frame
  • Add another line on the suction side
  • Switch gas engine to electric start

We've built many different sprayers so we can recommend a variety of great options for your unit. We talked to Sales Manager, Brandon Grossman, who shared with us three recent custom-built sprayers:

Kings Sprayers 200 Gallon Hot Water Pressure Washer Skid Sprayer

KS200P19HW-Hot water pressure washer sprayer.jpg"One of our customers landed a bid for a series of mall properties. The bid required a hot water pressure washer in order to clean away all of the grease and grime in and around the building. The cold water pressure washers he used previously served only to move the grime around instead of melting it away. The solution was to build a sprayer with a water heater. The hot water not only cleans away the dirt but also allows the job to be completed more efficiently by reducing the amount of spray time needed."

Model: KS200P1926HW

Features:
  • 13 HP Honda GX390 series electric start engine
  • General Pump plunger pump (4 gpm, 4000 psi)
  • Sprayer equipped with manual hose reel and 100' 3/8" ID hose
  • 6061 aircraft grade aluminum frame
  • 12V battery included to power engine

Kings Sprayers 200 Gallon 4-Wheel Sprayer w/ 7 GPM Electric Pump

KS200P3FB27BK-Web.jpg
"A customer recently built four new greenhouses and needed an electric sprayer, instead of a gas engine, to reduce emissions. He also needed a pump that would supply enough flow and pressure to effectively spray at the end of a 150’ length of hose. A 4-wheel sprayer was ideal for this job as it can be pulled by hand and has great maneuverability for tight spaces"

Features:
  • Delavan 7870-101Y-SB 12V pump (7 gpm, 100 psi)
  • Manual hose reel with 150' 3/8" ID hose
  • Battery kit included
  • 6061 aircraft grade aluminum frame

Kings Sprayers 200/100 Gallon Dual Tank Skid Sprayer & Dual Electric Hose Reels

KS200100P7039E2.jpg "A recent customer needed to mix water with chemicals and have two applicators spraying at the same time. We modified a skid sprayer so he could easily mount the unit on a vehicle and added an extra tank and an extra hose reel!"

Features:
  • 5.5 HP Honda GX160 electric start engine
  • Hypro D30GRGI diaphragm pump (9.5 gpm, 580 psi)
  • Dual electric hose reels with 300' of 1/2" ID hose
  • Hose roller guides & fill pipes for each tank
  • Battery kit included for engine & electric hose reels
  • 6061 aircraft grade aluminum frame

Employee Spotlight: David Herrera, Production Manager

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Aug 21, 2015

This month in our "Employee Spotlight" we are getting to know David Herrera, our Production Manager.

David is one of our team members with the most seniority, which makes him a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the sprayer industry. He plays a key role here at Sprayer Depot by coordinating operations across departments including establishing the production schedule, designing custom sprayers and ensuring quality control. He makes sure that your sprayer is built on time and with the highest standard of quality!

Here's what he had to say:

Name: David Herrera
Title: Production Manager
Originally from: Florida

Q: What’s your favorite song or one that's stuck in your head?
A: I don’t have one favorite song, but lately I’ve been listening to Dr. Dre’s new album Compton pretty much non-stop. Instant Classic!

Q: What is the last book you read?
A: Gary Dell'Abate: They Call Me Baba Booey

Q: Do you have an inspirational quote that you live by?
A:“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

Q: Ok, if you were a superhero, with a sprayer as your secret weapon, what would be your magic power?
A: Teleportation, so I could instantly go anywhere in the world, without the hassle of travel.

Q: Will you tell us something most people don't know about you?
A: I’ve been in the sprayer industry for 12 years.

Q: Care to share the best tip for someone in the sprayer industry?
A: Keep stock of common wear items like strainer gaskets, diaphragms, and in some cases, a spare pump, to keep you going in case something fails in the field. There is nothing worse than being down for a day or two while waiting for parts to arrive.

Q: What’s the best part of joining the Sprayer Depot team?
A: Definitely the people I work with and the environment we create. We work hard and play hard. There is an old saying, popularized by Jack Nicholson’s character in The Shining, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” There is no dullness at Sprayer Depot.

3 Myths About Custom Sprayers

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Mar 27, 2015

Customizing a sprayer is simple and easy when you order from Sprayer Depot. Many people assume that anything "custom-built" is unaffordable or out of reach. Or that customizations equal complicated, and not worth the hassle. When it comes to sprayers... that is simply not true.

Here, we'll debunk three myths about custom sprayers that were discussed in our recent Monthly Deal Finder newsletter and review some of the more common modifications you might consider with your next sprayer purchase.

Myth #1: Custom sprayers are expensive so only big companies can afford the price tag.

Fact: It may surprise you that some of the common modifications that our customers request are relatively inexpensive.

Myth #2: Custom sprayers require major modifications.

Fact: Whether you require a dozen modifications or simply need something like a bigger hose reel or a low-profile tank, no customization is too big or too small.

Myth #3: Custom sprayers are hard to come by.

Fact: In 2014 we built more than 500 custom sprayers here at Sprayer Depot. Acquiring a sprayer with just the right features is just a click or call away.

Now that we have those out of the way, let’s talk about some examples of sprayer modifications that might make for a better product for your unique needs.

Option: So the sprayer listed comes with a manual hose reel but you’d prefer an electric rewind hose reel. That’s no problem.

Option: Most of the sprayers we carry come standard with 150 feet of hose, but it’s an easy fix to add more hose to the hose reel if that’s necessary for  your line of work.

Option: You want a different engine than the one that comes on the sprayer? It’s also possible to change the gas engine to an electric start engine.

Option: Changing the tank size is an easy fix. We have a variety of poly tanks that could work for your needs and a number of frames that can be modified for that purpose.

We've made some of our most requested modifications available as stock sprayers that you can easily shop on our website at SprayerDepot.com. Shown above is a custom-built 300 gallon 4-wheel sprayer on the right, next to a 50 gallon skid sprayer that has been placed in the back of the a new Kubota utility vehicle. Each has a unique use and modifications that suit each customer’s needs.

The team at Sprayer Depot is one of the most experienced in the industry, and a simple conversation with one of our knowledgeable Customer Service Technicians is all it takes to turn your ideas into the sprayer of your dreams. Call (800) 228-0905 and get the conversation started.

Top Sprayer Depot Posts of 2014

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Jan 27, 2015

TopPosts2014We have a lot of fun at Sprayer Depot creating this blog, uncovering resources or industry news. We're always seeking out information that matters to folks from each of the industry segments we speak to on a regular basis. From the latest smartphone application to tips and tricks to utilize your spray equipment better, we try to cover it all throughout the year right here in this blog.

In case you missed them, here are the five posts that got the most views in 2014.

1.  6 Popular Apps for Tree Care Professionals

In June we reviewed six popular apps for tree care professionals. Like professional landscapers and horticulturists, professional arborists spend a lot of time working “in the field”.  The use of smartphones and tablets have helped make the workday more productive for these professionals by making every day tasks such as invoicing, project management and even research, easy to complete in a non-office work environment.

2. Plumbing Your Sprayer the Right Way

Then, in July, we dove into the inner workings of plumbing your sprayer the right way. The primary goal when you’re plumbing a sprayer pump is to route liquid from the pump to the spray nozzle with as little restriction as possible. By minimizing restrictions you’ll achieve the pump’s maximum rated capacity.

3.  4 Features of the New Sprayer Calibration App

We featured another smartphone application in September with the debut of a new sprayer calibration calculator app designed to assist spray applicators with calibrating a pesticide sprayer. The app was developed by the University of Illinois Extension and is available free to those with Apple and Android phones.

4.  How To Build the Perfect Custom Sprayer

When we say we know sprayers, it’s true. Our team builds more than 500 custom sprayers each year for customers looking to modify or completely reconfigure the makeup of this important equipment. After all, you don’t have to settle for less than perfect in the sprayer world. Just turn to our Sprayer Depot knowledgeable customer service technicians with your ideas and < bam > the perfect custom sprayer is born. Also in September we shed light on some of the common modifications to a few of our best selling sprayer models from Kings Sprayers.

5.  Introducing The Kings QuickShip Sprayers

Back in May we featured the Kings Sprayers QuickshipTM Program. We've made it easier than ever to get the high-quality commercial sprayer you want - without the wait! So we chose some of our most popular Kings Sprayers models and made them available for same day shipping*.  Sprayers in this program that are ordered by 12:00 p.m. (EST) will ship same day.

We’re grateful that you’ve chosen to read what we write and hope you find this blog to be a useful resource. Thanks for your time in 2014. We hope to see you here more often this year!

Customer Spotlight: SunRail and Vegetation Management Spray

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Nov 28, 2014

SunRail Safety

SunRail, Central Florida’s new $1.3 billion commuter train that began service in May 2014, currently transports an average of more than 3,000 daily riders to and from work during weekdays. Using the existing rail system for the first phase of the project, the commuter train adds to the existing track usage by freight service provider CSX and passenger service Amtrak, making the need for additional railroad safety a high priority in the community.

So what exactly does that mean? As SunRail debuted in the Orlando market, the community

learned more and more about rail safety measures. What many think of when discussing rail safety are the aspects that involve the public’s support – watch for trains, don’t stop on tracks, obey the crossing arms, etc. One aspect that is often overlooked involves the sprayer industry and ensuring tracks are clear of debris.

As SunRail looks to expand its offerings with new lines that it will maintain, the commuter train system looked to Sprayer Depot for support in custom building a unit that met its needs. Keep in mind that CSX and Amtrak have systems in place for maintaining tracks that they own, it’s just not something you often hear about.

How does Sprayer Depot fit in? Sprayer Depot worked with SunRail to develop a sprayer system to manage vegetation growth. We worked with the SunRail team to provide most of the sprayer system’s components like a giant tank, pump, engine, connection fittings, hoses, spray gun, etc. Everything for the sprayer system, except the truck and trailer to mount it on.

So as SunRail grows, so will its eye towards safety and we at Sprayer Depot are happy we could be a part of it.Uncontrolled vegetation around railroad tracks is a huge safety and operational issue. The overgrowth can often reduce visibility for operators, pose a fire hazard and in some cases cause train delays. When you’re trying to catch a commuter train, no one wants to hear the word "delay", that’s for certain. So railroads have programs to proactively keep vegetation growth in check by using a combination of herbicide spray and mechanical brush cutting. The programs aim to eliminate weeds before they grow, kill those that may have already sprouted and constant maintenance surrounding tree and bush growth. One way to relate it is that it’s much like how most Department of Transportation agencies operate as it relates to roadways, just for a railroad line. Instead of asphalt, it’s tracks and instead of a stream of cars, it’s a train.

Happy Spraying.

How To Build the Perfect Custom Sprayer

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Sep 05, 2014

Kings Sprayer 100/50 Dual Tank Skid Sprayer

When we say we know sprayers, it’s true. Our team builds more than 500 custom sprayers each year for customers looking to modify or completely reconfigure the makeup of this important tool. After all, you don’t have to settle for less than perfect in the sprayer world. Just turn to our Sprayer Depot knowledgeable customer service technicians with your ideas and < bam > the perfect custom sprayer is born. Here we’ll take a look at some of the common modifications to a few of our best selling sprayer models from Kings Sprayers.

You might be wondering if Sprayer Depot can modify one of the existing sprayers manufactured from Kings Sprayers. In a word, YES! Whether it’s adding more hose, swapping out the pump, or modifying the entire unit to your specific needs, Sprayer Depot can make it happen. We talked to operations manager David Herrera who mentioned “one of our biggest strengths is that we can get creative to solve space issues by creating custom frames and thinking outside the box.” Let’s take a closer look at a few scenarios as described by David:

One common customization is the dual tank setup (pictured above). Sometimes customers want two tanks so they can have chemicals in one tank and fresh water in the other, or another common scenario is having a need to spray two different chemicals while out on the job. We can make that happen within almost any parameter needed.

Another unique customization we created at the request of a customer is depicted in the same image above where you’ll notice that the hose reel is turned to the side. This is popular with the skid sprayer units in particular because the skid sprayer is usually in the bed of a pickup truck. It can be more convenient for the operator to have the hose dispatched from the passenger side when spraying lawns and shrubs.

Gator Kings SprayersAnother example is  this custom Gator Kings Sprayers model. This skid sprayer unit fits into the back of a Gator utility vehicle. We had a customer request for a 100-gallon tank with a specific pump, engine, and hose reel. Given the standard way we build our skids, there was no way we could fit what the customer wanted in his Gator. So we got creative by using a low profile tank and designed a custom frame so that all of the components could be mounted above the tank. This is one of the most direct examples of how our team can creatively solve a problem a customer might have encountered with a standard off-the-shelf sprayer.

Below are a few of the most common modifications that can turn a stock sprayer into a custom model ideal for your needs:

  • Change the manual hose reel to an electric version
  • Add more hose to the hose reel
  • Change the standard spray gun to something else
  • Swap in a larger tank
  • Change the gas engine to electric start
  • Modify the orientation of the tank on the frame
  • Change the sprayer pump to a different manufacturer’s pump
  • Add another line on the suction side

So, what modifications would you love to improve your sprayer?

Customer Spotlight: Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT)

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Jul 22, 2014

UDOTThe Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has the responsibility to plan, construct and maintain the state highway system. The state reported 45,881 total public road mileage, including state, county, city, forest service, national park service, native American and other roadways. That’s a lot of surfaces for the 13th largest state by size in the United States. To keep those roadways in tip top shape, UDOT uses a variety of equipment including, as you may have assumed, sprayers.

So we asked the Urban Area Supervisor for his insight on how sprayers are use in his line of work.

1. What type of spray equipment does the UDOT use?
We have several types of equipment that are used here from 250-350 gallon tanks in urban areas and up to 2,000 gallon tanks in rural areas. Smaller tanks are operated from our maintenance one-ton trucks with the large tanks mounted in our ten-wheeler trucks. We also use an ATV mounted sprayer with a small tank to get the areas that are not accessible by trucks. Plus, we have hose reels, side bar sprayers, and boom buster sprayers that spray up to 35'.

UDOT using an ATV mounted sprayer     UDOT using a spray gun extension

2. What is typically being sprayed?
We are using pesticides and herbicides for weed control and vegetative management. We are targeting our areas that have noxious weeds like Kochia, Thistles, White Top and nuisance weeds.

3. Who is in charge of maintaining the spray equipment?
Our station maintenance personnel who hold an applicators license take care of the equipment that they are using. If it is a major repair, then we have our region maintenance shop fix the problem.

4. What months of the year do you use spray equipment?
We start using our equipment in March and will spray into June. Then we have areas that spray in September and October.

5. What are the general responsibilities of the DOT?
Our general responsibilities are preserving infrastructure, maintaining our roadways, and keeping roads and interstates clean and safe for our traveling public. Doing all we can to help with zero fatalities.

6. Are there custom-sprayers in your fleet?
Yes, we have built custom over the years.

7. How often is the spray equipment used? (Daily? Weekly?)
It’s used weekly in our peak seasons. We have also used these sprayers for maintenance operations where water is need to help the activity.

8. Do you typically place orders for sprayer parts and accessories on the website? Or is the order phoned in?
Prefer to phone the order in.
