3 Sprayer Upgrades That Can Make Your Life Easier

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Sep 01, 2017

It's no mystery that the more efficient you can run your business, the more successful it will be. Right? That means not only fine-tuning administrative systems, but keeping equipment up-to-date and in good working condition can prevent downtime and increase productivity.

Upgrading a few key components of your sprayer can improve its performance and efficiency. Here's a look at some recommendations to save you time AND money!

  • Hannay-Hose-Reel.jpgElectric Rewind Hose Reel & Hose Guide - Save your biceps and your time by upgrading to the electric rewind reel and hose guide.  Simply push the button on the reel and the hose will automatically return to you!  Use the guide to help the hose back onto the spool uniformly and with ease.
  • Boomless Nozzle or Spray Boom - If spraying large areas where spot spraying with a gun may not be the best option, consider a boom or boomless nozzle.  Turn the valve on to supply liquid to the attachment and drive your vehicle - it’s as easy as that!
  • Electric Start Engine - If space is too tight to pull the cord oHonda-Electric-Start-Engine.jpgr you want the simplicity of key start, upgrade to an electric start engine.

Our Best-Selling Sprayer of All Time

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Jun 09, 2017

Spring time is typically the beginning of the spraying season for many professional spray applicators, and the time when spray equipment is repaired or replaced in preparation for the busy season. At Sprayer Depot, our sprayer sales have reached an all time high, which means there are more Kings Sprayers in use than ever before. What makes this brand so popular and successful? "Quality and durability are the top two reasons," explains Brandon Grossman, sales manager at Sprayer Depot. Plus, Grossman adds, "There are so many models and sprayer styles, there's a sprayer for just about every spray application." From tall tree spraying to highway weed control, there's a Kings Sprayer to fill the need. This universal appeal has helped make Kings Sprayers one of the most popular sprayer brands on the market.

Our Best-Selling Sprayer: The Kings Sprayers 100 Gallon Skid Sprayer

Skids are most popular frame type we sell, and the Kings Sprayers 100 Gallon Skid Sprayer (item # KS100P7027) is our top dog. The baseline Kings Sprayers Kings-Sprayers-KS100P7027.jpgSkid Sprayer model (item # KS100P70and its variations are popular with our customers because booms, boomless nozzles as well as longer lengths of hose or electric rewind hose reels can be easily added.

Popular in Landscaping & Other Industries

"This sprayer is a favorite among our lawn and landscape customers. Pest control, root injection, nursery and horticultural customers also use skid sprayers but L&L is tops!  With up to 9.5 gpm and a full pressure range of 0-580 you can spray lawns at low pressure, trees up to 40’ at higher pressure and any application in between!" remarks Grossman.  The Greensmaster JD9 that comes standard with our Kings Sprayers Skid Sprayers is equipped with an adjustable nozzle (3-8 gpm) from the factory.

What Makes This Sprayer So Great

"For lawn spraying and to create larger droplets, showerhead nozzles are available.  Simply remove the cap and adjustable tip and thread the showerhead onto the barrel, and decrease the pressure on the regulator.  When switching up to spray trees put the adjustable nozzle back on, crank up the pressure and fire away (Up to 40’ vertically, 50’ horizontally!), explains Grossman.

Then adding, "The pressure regulator with color coded gauge allows you to easily adjust the pressure rating depending on the application you are performing.  Another key feature of this sprayer is the jet agitation.  This is controlled by a ball valve on the regulator and shoots back in near the bottom of the tank to keep the chemical from settling.  Flow is very important for agitation (more so than pressure) and this pump will make that liquid in the tank swirl!  With great flow, pressure and the ability to perform multiple applications with one sprayer the KS100P7027 cannot be beat".

Keeping It Reel: Everything You Need to Know About Hose Reels

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Wed, Mar 01, 2017

Hose reels are an essential tool for spray applicators, no matter the industry. By allowing fluid to pass through the hose without taking all of the hose off the reel first, hose reels increase efficiency and offer ease-of-use, while keeping the hose Hannay-Hose-Reel.jpgorganized and out-of-the way. They are available in manual, spring rewind, and electric versions. But before you default to buying the least expensive or basic model, let's take a closer look at some of the features and benefits of each type of hose reel.

The Basics

There are two parts of a hose reel that influence what kind of hoses fit on it:

  1. The space between the discs
  2. The diameter of the discs
A hose reel has two discs which keep the hose in place, and a wider space between them, along with larger discs means more hose can fit on the reel. Small reels may have only 7.5 inches between the discs, but larger ones may have discs that are two or more feet apart. In the specs of each model, you'll find information about what "ID" hose each can take, that's the inches in diameter and lets you know if the reel is appropriate for large or small hoses.

Manual & Spring Rewind Hose Reels

Hose reels can be powered by a few different sources, the most popular are manual and spring rewind. Manual hose reels require the user to physically roll the hose, using a handle or hand crank (dependent on the size and weight of the hose and reel). Spring rewind hose reels include a built-in pre-tensioned spring; once unlatched, the hose will automatically retract.

Electric Hose Reels

Electric hose reels are popular for jobs where the length & weight of the hose becomes much greater than a spring rewind can withstand, or in situations where reducing time between jobs is a top priority.

In deciding on a manual or electric hose reel, it's important to consider a few things. As their name implies, manual reels are cranked by hand and have many benefits including a more attractive price. However, they can be difficult to use especially if you have a very long and heavy hose. On the other hand, an electric hose reel can seem like a big investment but a key benefit is the simple click of a button will reel the hose back in an easy and convenient way.

Hose Reel Tips & Tricks

  • If you've got the space, select a reel with greater hose capacity than you require. This allows you to rewind the hose with less care and keeps the hose well protected within the disc dimension, even if the hose is not wound in uniform coils.
  • The hose reel swivel allows the drum to turn when the hose is unrolled and rolled. It contains rubber o-rings that are exposed to chemicas, weather conditions and heavy use. Regular inspection of the o-rings will prevent leaking and should be part of a regular maintenance program.
  • Keep an extra set of o-rings on hand so that repairs can be done in a timely manner

Product Highlight: Spray Hose

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Mon, Mar 21, 2016

Spray hose is an essential part of your sprayer, but it's often overlooked. It’s easy to ignore the hose when there are many other spray components to consider. However, making sure you choose the right spray hose for the job is an important step to ensure the quality of your application.

Spray hose come in a variety of materials capable of handling different liquids like pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. It also comes in various diameters and lengths. A few other things to consider when selecting a spray hose include the spraying pressure needed, the flexibility of the hose, and temperature resistance. Our savvy and friendly Customer Service Technicians can help match you with the best type for your application.

Spray hose must be durable enough to handle different spray solutions, harsh weather conditions and rough handling. You will find three types of hoses for sale in our inventory: Suction Hose, Clear Braid Hose and High-Pressure Hose. Your sprayer likely uses one of these 3 hoses, or a combination of them.

Sprayhose_SprayerDepot.png

Let’s take a closer look at each of these hoses:

Suction Hose: This type of hose is used from the tank to the pump. It is rated for low pressure so you wouldn’t see it used anywhere else but the suction side of a sprayer. The suction hose is easily identifiable by it’s clear color and PVC reinforcement which spirals through it.

Clear Braid Hose: This hose can handle higher pressure than a suction hose, however, it’s commonly used only on the bypass line and also on the discharge hose for smaller units like a spot sprayer. It is a clear hose with a braid running through it, which helps to keep the hose from kinking or twisting.

High-Pressure Hose: As the name implies, high pressure hose is rated to withstand a lot of pressure. How much will depend on the hose, but usually they are 600 or 800 psi. These type of hoses are also called discharge or spray hose and they are used directly from the discharge line to the spray gun. We stock Flextral brand spray hose which is extremely durable and made of PVC.

Don’t let an old and damaged spray hose affect your application. Whether you need hose by the foot,  or an entire roll, we've got what you need.

Product Highlight: Hose Reels

Hose reels are an essential part of your sprayer, but they can be easily overlooked. However, making sure that you have the correct size and type of hose reel is critical to preserve the life of the spray hose.

Hose reels are made of different types of materials with the most common being aluminum, stainless steel or powder coated steel. Our Kings Sprayers come with a standard Titan hose reel, which is made from aluminum just like our frames. We find this type of reel to be incredibly durable, heavy-duty and lightweight.

Another excellent option is the Hannay hose reel. This is probably the most popular brand of commercial reels in our industry and they also come in various materials and sizes.

A few things to consider when choosing the type of material for your hose reel are temperature resistance, strength, flexibility, and a few other factors. Our Customer Service Technicians can help match you with the best type for your project. Once you've chosen the material, it's time to decide on whether you need an electric or manual reel. As their name implies, manual reels are cranked by hand which have many benefits such as a more attractive price, but they can be difficult to use especially if you have a very long and heavy hose. On the other hand, an electric reel can seem like a big investment but they are equipped with 12V motors and a simple click of a button will reel the hose back in an easy and convenient way.

3 Key Benefits of a Custom Sprayer - and Why It Won’t Break the Bank

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Wed, Jan 14, 2015

When you think about customizing just about any piece of equipment, price is always a factor. Or so it seems. With our line of Kings Sprayers, customizing your spray equipment isn’t out of reach. Consider that we offer many existing sprayer models at Sprayer Depot. So modifications to meet your needs are totally doable. Sometimes, simple tweaks can take an off-the-shelf sprayer and make it custom-built. In the end, get the product that meets your current and future needs without breaking the bank.

Let’s take a look at three of the more popular modifications below that could benefit your business.

The Hose Reel

Does the sprayer you’ve been eyeing come with a manual hose reel? Perhaps you looked into the higher end model and felt it was out or reach or had too many bells and whistles. It is about $400 to upgrade the hose reel on most Kings Sprayers from a manual to an electric rewind hose reel. You also need a battery or other 12V power source to run it. This is food for thought when you’re thinking about daily use, convenience and just how long that hose is.

The Hose Length

Speaking of hose length, many of the sprayers we sell at Sprayer Depot come with 150’ of high-pressure spray hose. To upgrade the hose length from 150’ to 300’ is only around $120 and could provide the tools necessary to take on larger jobs that require more hose length. Looking long-term and with business growth in mind, doubling the length of hose isn’t such a bad idea for some companies.

The Pump

Arguably the heart of the sprayer, there are a variety of spray pumps that can be swapped on existing Kings Sprayers models. Of course upgrading pumps can be a little expensive, but not out of reach when you’re in the market for a new sprayer. Sprayer Depot offers an upgrade for $400 on poly headed diaphragm pumps that allow you to spray more corrosive chemicals. Another option would be to upgrade the standard roller pump to a silver series roller pump for roughly $200. The decision to upgrade your pump really boils down to what you’re spraying and determining what makes the most sense given the chemicals used.

These are just a few of the many options available when customizing your sprayer. Like we said before, why wouldn’t you want to explore getting the best sprayer for your current and future needs?  If you're interested in learning more about our custom sprayer options, follow the link below to learn more or contact us today to talk about your options.

Trick or Treat: Highlighting 3 Sprayer Tricks

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Mon, Nov 03, 2014

PumpkinThe spirit of Halloween is in full swing. Pumpkins are out, lining the streets. Haunted theme parks are in full swing. So we wanted to offer a little treat in the form of a few tricks of the trade. See what we did there? :)

You know, those little shortcuts that allow for your sprayer to run more smoothly or get a job completed more efficiently. After all, if there’s a tip or trick to make spraying (in general) easier, we’re all about it as long as it doesn’t impact quality of work. Today we’re not talking math or anything like that. Feel free to add any additional insights you’ve learned over the years by commenting below. We’d love to feature them in a future post.

Trick #1: The Trash Grabber
Did you know you can use a “trash grabber” to install the bulkhead fittings on your sprayer? Sometimes it seems like we’re all thumbs, but this hand device can make that activity so much easier. Go ahead and give it a try. You’ll thank us later.

Trick #2: Technical Support
We’ve all run into a scenario where something just doesn’t sound right or isn’t working right. In that event, give our Customer Service Technicians a call and we’ll be happy to help diagnose the solution. It’s sort of like roadside assistance, but remotely since we don’t make house calls.

Trick #3: The Right Stuff
It might sound obvious, but using the right sprayer, nozzles, etc. for your application needs can really make a difference in your productivity. Even some customization options – boomless nozzle, electric hose reel – can add time back into your day or just make the job easier. Or using a sprayer with the correct tank size – you’ll have less waste at the end of your job and might even save on gas for your vehicle since you’ll be starting with a lighter load.

Have any other tips for using your sprayer that you can share? Post them in the comments below and we might just feature them soon.
