Product Highlight: Flow Meters

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Jul 14, 2017

Liquid meters, flow gauges, or flow indicators are all terms that are used interchangeably to refer to what is most commonly called a flow meter. Flowmeter-389.jpgA flow meter is a type of instrument that measures the amount of fluid, liquid, or gas (the flow) that travels through a piece of equipment. There are a few different types of flow meters that, depending on the industry and the application, will differ in the method of measurement.

Positive Displacement Flow Meters

The most frequently used type of flow meter is the positive displacement flow meter which is also the most unique type because it accumulates a fixed volume of fluid first and then counts how many times this set volume is filled to give the total measurement of flow. This is the only type of flow meter that gives an exact measurement of volume, other flow meters use some other measurement as a variable which is then used to give a final flow rate. The Green Garde Flow Master Electronic Digital Flow Meter is an example of a reliable positive displacement flow meter that works well with a variety of pressures and applications. This electronic flow meter is ideal for use with the JD9-C high pressure spray gun which gives you total control over every application. The Green Garde Flow Master can handle volumes up to 10,000 gallons and has no moving parts which ensure trouble free operation.

Mass Flow Meter

Mass flow meters are another type of flow meter that use the mass of the liquid or gas to determine the flow rate.  Thermal and Coriolis flow meters use this type of measurement as does the ARAG® Electromagnetic Visual-Flow Flowmeter 0.13-2.6 GPM which can be used across a wide variety of applications and has superb accuracy with 0.5% error. The ARAG Flowmeter also has a very high resistance to turbulence and integrates easily with existing rate controllers.

Velocity Flow Meter

The measurement of the flow rate by the velocity of a liquid or gas is used by velocity flow meters. Turbines, electromagnetic, sonar, and propellers use velocity flow meters.

No matter what your application or industry, the type of flow meter you choose will have a big impact on your flow control and productivity. Whatever your specific needs require, Sprayer Depot has a wide range of flow meters and accessories to help you monitor your applications with ease and accuracy!

5 Reasons Why You Should Never be Without Personal Protective Equipment

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Jul 11, 2017

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) keeps professional spray applicators safe from chemical exposure and other job hazards. Here are five reasons why it's important to never be without the right protective gear:

  1. Dangerous Materials: Skin irritation and burns from various chemicals can be easily avoidable with a pair of nitrile gloves. A few bucks can easily save you weeks of discomfort or serious health consequences. Some nitrile gloves (such as the ones linked) even offer puncture and abrasion protection.
  2. Dangerous Tools: Different spray jobs require different PPE.jpgequipment, and most situations call for various PPE items. Are you spraying a lawn area with a spray gunEven if you’re only using water, safety glasses are a necessity; you never know when a small piece of debris may bounce back toward your eyes.
  3. Dangerous WorkplacesSome workplaces, like busy roads or highways, are far more dangerous without proper PPE. For example, wearing a safety vest helps to ensure that drivers can see you as you work on or near a road, even at night!
  4. Dangerous ExposureNot all personal protection seems urgent, but it’s all important. Sometimes, a job that you thought might take an hour takes all afternoon. If it’s a sunny hot day, being caught outside can be a painful lesson to learn as you try to keep cool and avoid sunburn without a good hat.
  5. Show You’re Professional: Having appropriate PPE is important for personal safety, but it also helps to show that you’re professional and that you take a job seriously. If you want to make a good impression for you or your business, start with good PPE.

How Planning For Parts Can Save You Time & Money

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Wed, Jun 21, 2017

It's officially summer, and that means it's the time of year many of us are working at full capacity to maximize the business opportunities of the season.  Jd9C-Repair-Kit.jpgA little planning can go a long way, though. Making sure that equipment is running properly means making sure your equipment is in full operational condition and having spare parts on hand, just in case of a break-down and things don't go according to plan.

Top 4 Sprayer Parts To Keep In Stock

Keep spare parts on hand for items that commonly wear out. Consider this part of your spray equipment maintenance plan. You will be glad when all it takes is a simple repair to keep your spray equipment up and running. Here are some popular items that top our list of of recommended parts to keep on hand:

  1. Sprayer tips and nozzles
  2. Strainers
  3. Hypro D30 Diaphragm pump repair kit
  4. Spray guns

Since damaged spray tips are often overlooked, and can cost both time and money if not replaced in a time, it's a no-brainer to keep somne extra tips on hand. The same goes for strainers; they are inexpensive and easy to replace.  While it's always a good idea to keep a spray gun repair kit on hand such as the this one for the JD9®-C spray gun which includes a Teflon valve seat, having an extra spray gun at-the-ready ensures you've got a back-up plan. This short instructional video is a great refresher.

How to Overcome the Top 3 Problems of Tall Tree Spraying

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Wed, May 03, 2017

Spraying tall trees can be tricky business. The need to reach extreme heights can present challenges for spray applicators. At Sprayer Depot, we're always touting the importance of having the right equipment for the job, and this is especially true in tall tree spraying. The "one size fits all" approach does not apply!

tree-spraying.jpgFor example, we get calls from customers who want to use their existing sprayer and simply purchase a new spray gun to spray to further heights.  Unfortunately, this is not how it works: the whole system needs to be adequate.  If you don’t use the right tank, pump, spray hose or spray gun you won’t hit the desired distance.

Here are 3 important things to consider when spraying tall trees:

  1. Pick the right tank size - It's necessary for the tank capacity to be 5 - 6 times the max flow rate of the pump. We recommend the largest tank possible while still fitting space requirements. One of the main issues with using a tank that's too small is that the high flow rate of most pumps will empty a small tank quickly and create cavitation in the lines which leads to decreased performance.
  2. Pick the right pump, spray hose, and spray gun - In order to proper height when spraying tall trees, both flow and pressure are required. So a spray hose with with a diameter large enough that it does not restrict  the flow of the liquid is essential. High pressure will atomize the droplets and allow them to reach increased heights.
  3. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) - PPE protects the body from  hazardous chemicals. To reduce the risk of harm or injury, professional spray applicators should wear face, eye, skin, and hand protection.

Use this helpful guide when determining what equipment to use for tall tree spraying:

How to Repair a JD9-C Spray Gun With an O-Ring Kit

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Mon, Aug 10, 2015

Last week we talked about our recent Repair and Service Department expansion. We are so proud of being able to offer our customers even more options when it comes to repairs and maintenance on all of your spray equipmentparts and accessories.

However, we also understand that there are some repairs that are easy enough to take on by yourself. DIY repair projects can reduce your downtime and avoid repair fees by simply ordering the replacement part needed and following our helpful instructional videos.

This time around we are featuring a spray gun repair. The Greensmaster JD9-C spray gun* comes standard in most of our Kings Sprayers. It’s one of our preferred spray guns due to it being great quality, heavy duty and able to achieve a maximum pressure of 800 psi.

If your trusted spray gun is suddenly leaking, replacing the O-rings will usually fix it.

For this project you will need the following tools:

  • 10 millimeter socket
  • 10 millimeter wrench
  • Pick
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Crescent wrench
  • O-Ring Kit

Let's get started! Follow these steps:

  1. Remove the nozzle
  2. Remove the O-ring located inside the nozzle
  3. Replace it with a new ring that matches its size
  4. Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen the set screw to remove the barrel
  5. Remove the O-ring with a pick and replace it with a new one of the same size
  6. Use the crescent wrench to loosen the barrel nut to remove the inner barrel
  7. Remove the Teflon seat and replace with new one
  8. Use the 10mm wrench to remove the outside nuts to remove the trigger fixture
  9. Use the crescent wrench to remove the nut in the back of the spray gun
  10. Remove the O-ring and Teflon seat inside using a pick and replace both
  11. Tighten the rear nut
  12. Now, time to put everything back into place, replace the spring fixture and then tighten back the inner barrel using the crescent wrench
  13. Use the screwdriver to tighten back the screw in the outer barrel
  14. Add the nozzle and make sure it's secured
  15. Place the trigger fixture back into place and tighten all the nuts
  16. Replace the second rear nut to adjust the spray and you are done!

Watch the instructional video below for an even easier guide to follow:
