When you have to spray tall trees, it is advisable to use professional spray equipment. However, not just any spray equipment will do. You need something capable of outputting the necessary pressure to ensure uniform coverage. Today there are many high quality professional spray guns designed specifically for spraying tall trees. These guns enable you to prevent or combat pests and disease without leaving the ground.
Let's take a look at three of our most popular tall tree spray guns:
This tall tree spray gun features a 17" barrel, 10 mm internal tubing & adjustable spray pattern from straight stream to cone mist
Your choice of chemical treatment will vary depending upon the issue you are addressing such as pest infestations or disease. Place the chemical treatment into the container of the high-pressure sprayer, following manufacturer directions.
Spray guns give you control and flexibility so you have a wide range of motion. Hold your spray gun in such a way that you can spray the tree at an angle and avoid spraying chemical on yourself. Don't forget your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), whenever you use chemicals. It is also advisable to cover lower vegetation with plastic sheeting to protect it from any damage from the chemical treatment.
When you start the sprayer, you will be able to control the flow of the spray with your sprayer gun. Position the gun and adjust the speed so that you can send a focused stream into the tree branches to coat leaves and branches with a fine mist of the sprayed chemical. As you spray the tree, walk around so that you can reach branches and leaves from all angles for proper coverage.
Let us help you make your application as effective as possible. Let us know the type of tall tree you are spraying and what chemicals you are using and we can help you get the best equipment for the job!
FMC John Bean piston pumps have an all-star reputation as quality and reliable pumps that are capable of taking on some of the biggest spraying jobs. John Bean pumps were invented back in 1884 as a way to spray insecticide on the many fruit orchards in California. As the first to build a high pressure spray pump to deliver chemicals quickly and easily to large areas, John Bean pumps became so popular that soon a manufacturing plant was built to satisfy demand.
Today, FMC John Bean pumps are still used to spray all types of orchards. Additional uses include turf, tree, agricultural and pest control applications. Since its early days, a full line of John Bean pumps has been added to the FMC John Bean product line. FMC now offers a broad array of John Bean high pressure piston and plunger reciprocation pumps within the industrial, oil and gas, core drilling and mining, sewer cleaning, and agricultural markets.
Piston and plunger pumps are characteristically high efficiency pumps with rated efficiencies of 85 percent to 90 percent and in some cases can achieve higher efficiency than rated!
FMC John Bean Pumps are built with high quality standards, and when properly maintained, can last a very long time. It is important to have a regular maintenance scheduleto ensure the pump runs efficiently. One of the most common repairs our technicians see with this pump is replacing packings and valves that have not been checked on a consistent basis.
Want to know the top tell-tale signs that your pump is not operating properly? Check out this list compiled by Sprayer Depot's top Repair Technicians. Many of our customers are getting ready to store their sprayer. To make this task as easy as possible, we've been sharing our end-of-season tips and tricks in our previous posts. Now is also the perfect time to put together a sprayer emergency kit if you haven't already.
An emergency kit will cut your downtime and save you time and money by keeping a few essential partson hand so you can quickly repair your spray equipment. When breakdowns happen no one is happy, so avoid downtime by stocking up on replacement parts.
The parts in your emergency kit will vary depending on the type of spray equipment you use, but we've compiled a list of the most commonly needed parts for repairing and maintaining some of our most popular Kings Sprayers.
Spray Tips and Nozzles: Replace spray tips and nozzles immediately if you notice a change in flow rate or a change in pattern distribution. Damaged spray tips and nozzles are sometimes overlooked but can cost you money and precious time if not replaced in a timely manner.
Strainers: A clogged strainer is one of the most common repairs our Service Repair Technicians see on a daily basis. You can prolong your strainer's life by cleaning it often, however, it's a good idea to keep a replacement strainer, gasket and seal.
Spray Guns: We recommend not only keeping a spray gun repair kit but also a spare spray gun that you can use, just in case. One of the most common spray guns is the JD9-C pictured below, we sell a repair kit to replace the seals if the gun starts to leak and we have a short instructional video that will make the repair a breeze.
Spray Hose: Although hoses are pretty tough they can bend and crack which affects the performance of your sprayer so we recommend having spare suction, bypass and discharge hoses on hand in case you need a quick replacement.
Hose Fittings: Besides storing replacement spare hoses, reusable hose fittings should also be on your list. Check out our video on this easy repair!
Diaphragm: Having a diaphragm repair kit in your emergency kit is definitely a must. These handy and inexpensive kits can make all the difference when it comes to staying up and running, or increasing your downtime. We have a couple of instructional videos that will guide you on the steps necessary to replace the diaphragm in your pump.
Pumps: Just like the diaphragm, many parts in your pump can be easily replaced, but some can't and sometimes the pump will fail and the only solution is a replacement. We recommend keeping a spare pump as part of your emergency kit.
A sprayer emergency kit will also help you save money by avoiding a trip to the service and repair shop, but in case you need it, you can count on us to offer you the best repair service. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you need help with a repair, or if you want to schedule a repair and service appointment at our Orlando, FL retail location. Just call 800-228-0905.

However, we also understand that there are some repairs that are easy enough to take on by yourself. DIY repair projects can reduce your downtime and avoid repair fees by simply ordering the replacement part needed and following our helpful instructional videos.
This time around we are featuring a spray gun repair. The Greensmaster JD9-C spray gun* comes standard in most of our Kings Sprayers. It’s one of our preferred spray guns due to it being great quality, heavy duty and able to achieve a maximum pressure of 800 psi.
If your trusted spray gun is suddenly leaking, replacing the O-rings will usually fix it.
For this project you will need the following tools:
10 millimeter socket
10 millimeter wrench
Let's get started! Follow these steps:
Remove the nozzle
Remove the O-ring located inside the nozzle
Replace it with a new ring that matches its size
Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen the set screw to remove the barrel
Remove the O-ring with a pick and replace it with a new one of the same size
Use the crescent wrench to loosen the barrel nut to remove the inner barrel
Remove the Teflon seat and replace with new one
Use the 10mm wrench to remove the outside nuts to remove the trigger fixture
Use the crescent wrench to remove the nut in the back of the spray gun
Remove the O-ring and Teflon seat inside using a pick and replace both
Tighten the rear nut
Now, time to put everything back into place, replace the spring fixture and then tighten back the inner barrel using the crescent wrench
Use the screwdriver to tighten back the screw in the outer barrel
Add the nozzle and make sure it's secured
Place the trigger fixture back into place and tighten all the nuts
Replace the second rear nut to adjust the spray and you are done!

It’s always a good idea to review the manufacturer information when starting your skid sprayer for the first time. For the Kings Sprayers line we offer quick set up information in a variety of ways, through our website, YouTube videos and Customer Service Technicians. After all, many of our customers have tackled these steps many times over. However, as technology changes and sprayers are more and more customized, it’s always a good idea to take a second glance at the getting started information.
First, set the ON/OFF switch to the “ON” position.
Set the throttle to SLOW.
Make sure the gas is set to the ON position.
For a cold start, set the choke to FULL.
Pull start the engine.
Release the choke.
Raise the throttle to FULL.
Pressure should be adjusting to approximately 150psi. Notice a slight drop in pressure when the agitator is turned ON and rise when it is turned to the OFF position. The agitator mixes the tank to help evenly dispense chemicals.
Adjust the spray gun to the proper setting and you are ready to spray!

This week we had the opportunity to shine a spotlight on Kings Sprayers in an effort to update our catalog of images and provide customers with expanded views of the sprayer components. Here we’ll give you a peek behind-the-scenes at our warehouse where the photo shoot took place. On display was the line of QuickShip sprayers that ship same day for a flat fee. It’s a great deal considering the size and weight of these products. Plus, customers can get up and running faster and have less "down time" with same day shipping. Orders must be placed before 12 p.m. (noon) EST to be eligible for same day shipping .
By capturing magnified views of the individual sprayer components, customers can clearly see parts of the sprayer that weren't easily visible with our existing sprayer images. On this photo shoot, we're getting up close to pumps, regulators, supply lines, agitator switches and more, on each of the QuickShip sprayers.
A special thanks goes to our Operations team for constantly staying on top of manufacturing these products that our awesome sales team kept selling daily. Also to Macbeth Photography for sharing their talents with us. Stay tuned as we share more updates to the Sprayer Depot website and Kings Sprayers product manuals to better serve your needs.
When we say we know sprayers, it’s true. Our team builds more than 500 custom sprayers each year for customers looking to modify or completely reconfigure the makeup of this important tool. After all, you don’t have to settle for less than perfect in the sprayer world. Just turn to our Sprayer Depot knowledgeable customer service technicians with your ideas and < bam > the perfect custom sprayer is born. Here we’ll take a look at some of the common modifications to a few of our best selling sprayer models from Kings Sprayers.
You might be wondering if Sprayer Depot can modify one of the existing sprayers manufactured from Kings Sprayers. In a word, YES! Whether it’s adding more hose, swapping out the pump, or modifying the entire unit to your specific needs, Sprayer Depot can make it happen. We talked to operations manager David Herrera who mentioned “one of our biggest strengths is that we can get creative to solve space issues by creating custom frames and thinking outside the box.” Let’s take a closer look at a few scenarios as described by David:
One common customization is the dual tank setup (pictured above). Sometimes customers want two tanks so they can have chemicals in one tank and fresh water in the other, or another common scenario is having a need to spray two different chemicals while out on the job. We can make that happen within almost any parameter needed.
Another unique customization we created at the request of a customer is depicted in the same image above where you’ll notice that the hose reel is turned to the side. This is popular with the skid sprayer units in particular because the skid sprayer is usually in the bed of a pickup truck. It can be more convenient for the operator to have the hose dispatched from the passenger side when spraying lawns and shrubs.
Another example is this custom Gator Kings Sprayers model. This skid sprayer unit fits into the back of a Gator utility vehicle. We had a customer request for a 100-gallon tank with a specific pump, engine, and hose reel. Given the standard way we build our skids, there was no way we could fit what the customer wanted in his Gator. So we got creative by using a low profile tank and designed a custom frame so that all of the components could be mounted above the tank. This is one of the most direct examples of how our team can creatively solve a problem a customer might have encountered with a standard off-the-shelf sprayer.
Below are a few of the most common modifications that can turn a stock sprayer into a custom model ideal for your needs:
Change the manual hose reel to an electric version
Add more hose to the hose reel
Change the standard spray gun to something else
Swap in a larger tank
Change the gas engine to electric start
Modify the orientation of the tank on the frame
Change the sprayer pump to a different manufacturer’s pump
Add another line on the suction side
So, what modifications would you love to improve your sprayer?
