Everything You Need to Know About Spray Nozzles

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Nov 29, 2016

If you’re trying to decide which type of nozzle to use for a particular spray application, there are a number of factors you need to take into account. With a little research, you can become an expert on this topic. Here are a few of the most common types of spray nozzles, and some information regarding when they’re appropriate for use. Remember, the cost of replacing nozzles is minor compared to the effects of poor spraying, so make sure to choose wisely.

Cone Nozzles

Cone nozzles come in two basic variations - hollow cone and full cone.

Full cone nozzles produce large droplets that reduce drift and are typically used for directed spraying and other specialty applications such as chemical processing or dust control.

Hollow cone nozzles produce finely atomized droplets in a hollow cone, making them an excellent choice for fungicide and insecticide application.

Flat Fan Nozzles

Flat fan nozzles shoot out a fan-shaped jet in an inverted “V” pattern commonly referred to as a tapered spray. Deposition is heaviest at the center of the pattern and dissipates Hypro flat fan spray tip.jpgtoward the outer edge. This is a general spray tip commonly used for broadcast applications, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides.

Adjustable Nozzles

Adjustable nozzles can be used when spraying requirements are anticipated to vary. The ConeJet spray tips have two settings on them representing different spray patterns: the first is labeled ConeJet-adjustable spray tip.jpgas setting "A" and results in a spray that allows for a wide angle and atomized cone spray, and the second is labeled as "B" and results in a straight stream spray. These nozzles are an excellent option if you think you might need more than one type of nozzle.

Accessories

There are various accessories that can help make a nozzle assembly more efficient. For example, spray tip strainers help to protect spray performance and productivity with precision straining at the spray tip, and can also prevent leakage when the tip is not in use.
