An Update on the Zika Virus and Spray Equipment for Mosquito Control

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Aug 05, 2016

About the Zika Virus

Earlier this year, we published a blog post about the growing concern over the spread of the Zika virus. Since then, the topic has had extensive media coverage including an unprecendented Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel warning earlier this week which advised pregnant women not to travel to a specific area near downtown Miami, FL.

The Zika virus is a mosquito-transmitted disease. Most people infected with Zika won't even know they have the disease because they won't have any symptoms. However, when symptoms are present, they commonly include fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). These symptoms usually last anywhere from 2 to 7 days on average.  According to the CDC, a direct link has been confirmed between Zika virus and microcephaly in newborn babies and a rare immune system disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome.

The vast majority of cases of Zika in the United States have been from travel to other countries where the virus is actively circulating, a total of more than 60 countries and territories.

The good news is that mosquito control can be accomplished by developing an effective plan and using the right spray equipment.

Customer Highlight:  Get to Know Lawn Doctor

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Jul 29, 2016

Not Just Another Lawncare Company

Our Customer Highlight Contest is one our favorite ways to get to know our customers. It's especially fun when we receive photos as part of the contest submissions and our recent contest, "Show Us Your Eat. Spray. Love T-Shirt"  garnered quite a few fun entry pictures.

We're excited to announce Glenn Farrell of Lawn Doctors in Stamford, CT as the winner of the contest. Glenn submitted a winning photo featuring one of our Eat.Spray.Love t-shirts and we're lovin' it! We asked Glenn to tell us a little more about Lawn Doctors, and here's what he told us:

1. Briefly describe your business and the type of     services you provide: Lawn Doctor provides                 treatments for lawns, t ree and shrub care, in addition to mosquito and tick control.

2. Do you use social media for your business? If so, what channels? (Facebook, Twitter, etc): Yes! We have a Facebook page for each of our locations, Lawn Doctor of Fairfield and Westchester County and Lawn Doctor of Metrowest and Worcester County.

3. What type of equipment do you use most often? Proprietary equipment for lawn and power seeding; spray rigs for spraying trees, shrubs, ticks, and mosquitos.

4. What months of the year are the busiest for your business? March – June than again September - October.

5. What is one part or component you always keep on hand? I have a spare part for all my main equipment. I use an inventory system that allows me to see what I go through the most, and be sure to have two of those in inventory.

6. What is the biggest way Sprayer Depot helps make your life easier? I always call and speak to Brandon Grossman; he helps with any details and is pretty awesome (and a great asset to Sprayer Depot).

7. If you could choose the color of our next "Eat. Spray. Love" t-shirt, what color would it be? I'd like a fluorescent color so it would stand out.

The Bike MS raises funds to support research and critical programs for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

The Sprayer Depot team participated in the Bike MS event in Massachusetts which took place June 25-26, 2016, cycling over 100 miles to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. Year in and year out, The Bike MS program raises more money than any other cycling event for any cause.
