Be Prepared, and Stay Ahead of Your Competitors

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Dec 19, 2017

Benjamin Franklin once said "By failing to Prepare, you are Preparing to Fail." There's a lot to soak in regarding that famous quote, especially when it concerns running business or dealing with turf management issues.  Not having a vital piece of equipment on hand could mean the difference between upholding a customer relationship and getting kicked to the curb.  Keep your company running smoothly and your customers happy by having the tools you need to perform your service.

Inspect Your Sprayer Parts and Accessories and Update Your Inventory

In between seasons or during scheduled intervals, make it a point to examine your various sprayer parts including, but not limited to your strainers, spray hoses, strainer.jpgand spray tips, to look for worn or damaged areas.  Make a list of what extra parts you have on hand and how many you usually use in a season or a set time period.  As they say, "time is money", and having to stop what you're doing or reschedule a job so that you can order a part, then wait for it to arrive could spell trouble for your business if it occurs frequently.  Of course there Some things you cannot help, but being prepared is not one of them!

Staying Organized is the First Step in Staying Prepared

Keep a journal of the various sprayer parts you use the most. Use that running list to help you keep an idea of what and when you need to reorder specific products.  Whether it's taking a picture of a needed sprayer accessory with your smartphone while out in the field to serve as a reorder reminder, or simply jotting it down on paper, always have a solid idea of the equipment you need to reorder to keep your business running smoothly.  The key to a more productive business is being able to go to your personal supply room and get the particular part that you need as opposed to bringing your business to a grinding halt as you wait for the arrival of a parts shipment.  So stay organized, and stay one step ahead of the game!

Sprayer Depot is Here to Serve You

Regardless of the parts you need to keep your business in prime condition, the team at sprayerdepot.com can help with any of your spray equipment needs. Consider making it one of your new year's resolutions to update your inventory and stay prepared!

Why Preventing Freeze Damage Should Be a Top Priority This Month

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Dec 01, 2017

The cooler temperatures have arrived and that means that if you haven't already done so, it may be time to start winterizing your spray equipment to prevent unnecessary damage from the cold.  It's a relatively simple task but one that could save youK3PTH10027-Actual.jpg potentially hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in costly repairs and downtime if your equipment is impacted by freeze damage.

How Does Freeze Damage Occur?

Most pest control operators and others who use high pressure equipment are aware of freeze damage. As a reminder, here is a rundown that can really help to visualize the potential risks. Almost all sprayers and many of the spray equipment components use some kind of pressure system to operate and also are exposed to water based solutions or fluids.  When temperatures outside get significantly cold enough, the water that remains in equipment is likely to freeze and of course, expand.  This expansion of frozen fluids is extremely forceful and will place great pressure on its container (picture a freezing bottle of soda) that can eventually burst or at the minimum, place undue pressure on spray parts. This would likely result in moderate to serious damage to your sprayer or its parts. The weakest parts of your equipment such as the underside of sprayer wands are particularly prone to damage since they are subject to regular friction. Even if you are lucky enough to not have damage, you may still have some downtime while waiting for the components to properly thaw.

What Types of Equipment Are at Risk?

As mentioned, any component (both major and minor) that comes in contact with water based fluids, is at risk of freeze damage and parts that are weak or have any signs of wear are at the most risk.  Specifically, here are some of the most susceptible pieces of equipment that you should winterize if the weather in your area is projected to get cold enough:

  • Spray guns
  • Spray wands
  • Spray pumps
  • Filters
  • Valves
  • Plumbing fittings
  • All backpack or compressed air sprayers

How Can I Prevent Freeze Damage?

Before you start feeling the winter blues, keep in mind that freeze damage is preventable! It takes just a few short steps to winterize your equipment and parts before any kind of damage occurs.

Firstly, keep large pieces of equipment or agricultural vehicles stored in a warm place, covered and not exposed to the elements.  This way, there is less likelihood that any water residue will freeze.

Secondly, pay extra attention to the most expensive parts and components of your machinery and equipment.  Detach these parts if possible and store separately in a warm location or keep covered with blankets or other insulating material.

Thirdly, make sure you have added antifreeze to your systems before storing by simply running the engine for long enough for the antifreeze to circulate throughout the components.

Finally, make sure to completely drain equipment and if feasible, allow the components to completely dry before storing.  Make sure none of your parts are under pressure while stored and keep out of open air spaces.

By making winterization a top priority now, you can safely avoid the perils of freeze damage.  For any questions or help with preparing for the proper storage of your equipment this winter, contact our expert Customer Service Technicians who are always available to help.

Seven Easy Steps to Winterize Your Sprayer

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Tue, Nov 28, 2017

Winter will be here soon, and for much of the country, that means snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.Kings-Sprayers-200-Gallon-Trailor-Sprayerjpg.jpg Before the severe weather arrives, it's essential to ensure that your equipment is ready. One task that is vital and easily overlooked is the winterization of your sprayer before you put it away for the season. Winterizing your sprayer, like any regular preventative maintenance, will protect your investment and make certain that your sprayer is ready for the next spray season. Protecting your sprayer from freezing temperatures will make it last longer and is a quick and simple process, completed in just a few steps.

1) Flush the System With Clean Water

Thoroughly flushing your sprayer with clean water will remove any residual chemicals and eliminate any buildup. Even a small amount of residue can become sticky or harden, damaging the inner workings of your sprayer.

2) Drain the Tank

Open all the valves on your sprayer and blow compressed air through the system to ensure that the entire system is clear of any liquid.

3) Briefly Run the Pump

After clearing your system with compressed air, run the pump just long enough to ensure that no water remains behind.

4) Use Antifreeze

Dilute antifreeze with water or windshield washer fluid to create a 50/50 mix and run it through the sprayer long enough for it to reach all hoses, booms, and components.

5) Store Removable Parts

Remove and store parts, such as guns, nozzle tips, and strainers, in a clean, dry location.

6) Cover Openings

Cover any openings on your sprayer to prevent foreign objects, such as dirt or insects, from entering your equipment.

7) Wear Protective Gear

Personal protective equipment is a must when working around any pesticide, herbicide or other chemicals and the winterization process is no different. Protect yourself by limiting the amount of exposed skin with a long sleeve shirt, pants, and gloves. Wear a respirator or mask and remember to always protect your eyes.

5 Fun Black Friday Facts That Will Surprise You

Posted by Sprayer Depot on Fri, Nov 24, 2017

Ever wonder about how Black Friday got its name? black-friday-1.jpgThe day was dubbed "Black Friday" back in the 1960s when when accounting books were still logged in pen and ink and the day's sales helped move stores out of the "red" (losses) in into the "black" (profits).

In this post, we'll take a look at some of the fun facts about the day that has expanded to an entire weekend of shopping deals.

  1. Before Black Friday, there were Santa Claus Parades: In the early 1900s many cities across America had "Santa Claus parades" in early December. When Santa appeared at the end of the parade, it was a symbol of the beginning of the holiday season. American stores followed the lead and in 1924 the first Macy's ThanksgivingDay Parade was held.
  2. Black Friday wasn't officially claimed to be the busiest shopping day of the year until 2001:  It was thought of as a busy shopping day, however it was actually the SATURDAY before Christmas that beat it every year until 2001.
  3. Black Friday can be deadly: Since 2006, 10 deaths and 105 injuries have been attributed to Black Friday
  4. The worst deals:  Despite huge advertising campaigns, computer and phone sales (as a category) offer the worst deals on Black Friday. According to WalletHub, computer and phone discounts  average only 34% on Black Friday.
  5. Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for plumbers:  As bizarre as this may sound, it was reported by CNN who explained that the plumbers are needed to clean up after guests  "overload" the system.
